Superintendent's October Message

October Message

Mountain View School District is committed to supporting all students in their learning. We seek to develop skills that are important for success in the future. STEM or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is an area of growth in all of our schools. A strong foundation in STEM will put your child on the road to success in school and beyond. Our elementary schools have STEM Labs on all campuses. Teachers are exploring the integration of different areas of science, mathematics and engineering into activities that challenge students to ask questions and work as teams to come up with answers to complex problems. Our students are getting experience with computer coding and use of technology to support scientific questions.  At GYS, our science department is busy with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and exploring how engineering and technology support the application of science. Lessons focus on essential questions and then testing theories based on questions. Students learn to collect evidence to back up their answers.  These same skills will support students not just in high school but also in future technology based jobs. Information about NGSS.

We would like to hear your voice on the various programs and services that we offer in Mountain View School District. Give us your thoughts. You can view an overview of the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) here and you can provide your voice on topics and goals here

VOLUNTARY SUPPLY DONATIONS

We regularly receive questions regarding what parents can do to help with supply donations for their child’s classroom.  Click the link below to download “Voluntary Donation” lists for each grade level.  If you would like to purchase and donate extra supplies to your child’s classroom teacher, make sure to reference the grade level that your child will be in beginning this fall.  All supply donations can be turned in directly to the classroom teacher.  With state budget cuts affecting every area of education, we greatly appreciate any assistance our parents are willing to provide.  Thank you!
